I'm about to begin my first semester with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division. I'm a Graphic Design BA major. Since I am at home in Shreveport, LA, living with my parents, I sort of have an almost free ride concerning living (except for the $13,000 FPLUS loan I applied for) With all of this free time (apart from a full-time job coming pretty soon), I decided that maybe I should become an a high school commercial art teacher for my area. I'm really hoping to become an understudy for my previous commercial art teacher/good friend before she retires and take her place in a couple of years. Yes, Caddo Parish is on some sort of national desperate teachers needed list. My question is there anyway possible that I could apply a for a teacher loan deferment although I am taking college class via internet from Pittsburgh, PA and still teach in Louisiana? I'm 18, so I have all the time in the world to gain experience through teaching at rec centers like the YMCA, local churches, other community organizations, etc. Although I've acquired a lot of information from LA's official teaching sites and other resources from the internet, I'm thinking I should maybe contact LA's Office of Teacher Certification for further information and ask my teacher how she did it :D... read more
